Craig Smith Chevrolet is a second-generation dealer. His father and uncle started in the new car business in 1963 in Dekalb, Illinois. The family sold their store in Illinois in 1975 and moved to Florida where they operated a new car dealership until 1994. Market changes and a new overpass built in front of the Florida dealership dictated a change for The Smith Family. The dealership was sold, and Craig Smith found the Galion, Ohio point to be just what he was looking for. Craig Smith Auto Group was opened in May of 1995. The dealership is now known as Craig Smith Chevrolet. Its focus is employee and customer satisfaction.

Having been raised in the mid-west (Illinois), Craig decided a move back to the north was in order. Craig felt that Ohio was the perfect place to raise his young family along with his wife Ginger. The Galion dealership had changed hands five times within ten years which pointed to a difficult task ahead. Craig studied the reasons for past failures and invested heavily in the facilities which had been neglected. He also became very involved with the community serving on many boards thereby supporting the community of Galion. The dealership, with much hard work, became successful and ready to expand into the RV business only five years later. Craig’s son Brent and Alex now are following in his footsteps and are heavily involved in the day-to-day operations. Brent is the dealer principle and Alex works at his side in management. Craig is now retired but still an investor looking toward future growth and expansion.
